Power BI Desktop update – feature of the month (May 18)

This month Microsoft released 18 updates for Power BI:

  • 5 reporting
  • 1 analytics
  • 8 data connectivity
  • 4 other

Full details on this months updates can be found on the Power BI blog.

The feature we’ve picked out as the highlight for this month is Conditional formatting by a different field. Watch the below video to see this feature in action, the video will automatically start and end in the relevant place.

We’ve already used this feature in some of our reports, and we’ve found it particularly useful in wider tables where you want to apply the same or different conditional formatting to multiple columns to make it easier to see which row warrants more attention.

An honourable mention should go to the Incremental refresh preview feature, which will be very useful to some – but that’s kind of the problem with this feature (in terms of being a feature of the month) as only those who have very large data sets (that are several GB’s in size) and are using Power BI Premium will benefit from this.

Do you agree? Perhaps you’d pick a different feature, or the same feature for different reasons. Either way we’d love to hear your thoughts on this.

We hope you found this useful and/or interesting. If so please like, share or comment.
